Ek Balam is an important Mayan archaeological site in Yucatan. It is located 45 minutes from the airport of Chichen Itza and 30 kilometers north of the city of Valladolid, Yucatan.
In Mayan its name means black jaguar, the archaeological zone was an area of 12 square kilometers, today the buildings of the classic period, such as its ceremonial center, the ball game, and the oval palace persist.
It is possible to go up the stairs to the main building called the acropolis, and to observe the Maya city in this building you will be able to observe the paintings made in the stones and walls where it was demonstrated the great artistic capacities of the Mayas which expressed in a very real way the relevant moments of the city.
The journey through this Mayan city takes approximately 1 hour, then we continue to the town of Temozon where the cenote of Hubicu is located that is the most important of the area, there you can take a fresh bath in its crystalline waters. The cenote has an open part on the roof that naturally illuminates the cave, has stalactites and can even see fish in the water.
It really is a place of spectacular beauty. Also in the place you can visit a tequila museum and a Mayan village, to later enjoy a delicious buffet which will offer you ceviche, grilled fish, breaded, pasta, roast chicken, regional Yucatan food, salads, fruit bar and desserts.
After lunch we will make a brief stop in the village of Temozon to admire its beautiful church to return to Chichen airport.
